SportMed OnSite
SportMedBC provides comprehensive event medical coverage to many of the major international, national and provincial sports events held in British Columbia, including the BC Summer and Winter Games and the Vancouver SunRun—with more than 50,000 runners and walkers involved each year.
The SportMed OnSite program features:
Sport-Specific Consulting
- Develop sport/event-specific medical coverage guidelines
- Assist in the development of association safety policies and guidelines
- Assist in determining the medical and safety requirements for an event
Placement of Team Practitioners
Teams wishing to make contact with a "SportMed Trainer" or Therapist interested in working with them throughout the season should register with SportMedBC. The following will apply:
- Teams looking for 'SportMed Trainers' should contact SportMedBC in order to post their notice. Your association MUST be an active SportMed Community member and pay a $50 fee (annually) in order to request a posting.
- SportMedBC does not guarantee placement, however, will promote and maintain the online directory of therapists, 'SportMed Trainers' and students interested in gaining practical experience working with teams.
- Once the placement has been made, teams are expected to negotiate directly with the individual to determine team expectations, time commitment, honorarium, etc.
SportMed OnSite Coverage for Tournaments, Competitions and Events
SportMedBC will coordinate (on a fee for service basis) comprehensive on-site first-aid, medical coverage and injury referral services. The nature of the service and qualifications of the personnel recommended will be determined through an initial free consultation.
SportMedBC will:
- Recruit and schedule personnel
- Establish an emergency protocol
- Develop a budget, including coordination fees, personnel and equipment and supplies
- Provide necessary first-aid and medical supplies
- Oversee the on-site coverage
- Provide a complete written report following the event
